The initial expenses associated with the compilation of these educational materials, as well as the technical design and format for the “Electronic Text-Book” and Computer/Disk Edition, were contributed by Professor W. McKinley Smiley Jr. By Agreement, dated July 1, 1991, the Copyright was assigned to the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers for the original work entitled, “Trial Advocacy”. Paul D. Jess, General Counsel of the Academy, by letter dated April 14, 1999, notified that the Board of Directors of the Academy had approved the transfer and reassignment of the Copyright back to Professor Smiley. The Advanced Civil Trial Skills Foundation Inc. was founded by Professor Smiley as an organizational aid for the development and presentation of materials for the benefit of the educational needs of Law Students and the Civil Trial Lawyer.
